Commerce Travels To Riverside Thurs.

The Commerce cross country team continues to show improvement as they made strong showings in their last two meets.

Commerce will next travel to Gainesville for a meet at Riverside Academy on Oct. 21 before traveling to Athens Academy for the region meet on Oct. 28.

The Commerce boys placed eighth in the meet, trailing Athens Academy, Morgan County, Riverside, Hebron, Franklin County, Towns County and Prince Avenue.

The boys were led by Andrew Brookshire, who placed 41st of 73 runners with a 22:41. Jeffery Henderson was 48th (23:41), Chase Klugh 50th (23:46), Nick Henderson 56th (24:55) and Thomas Sweeny 61st (26:13). Other runners included Ryan Peek (27:38) and Zan Peek (28:20).

“I was pleased with how we ran,” said coach Mark Hale. “Each runner had his best time for the year. As you can see we still have a way to go before we are competitive with the top runners, but we are improving.”

Commerce next traveled to Banks County on Monday for a meet of six local teams. The boys placed fifth with 169 points.

Chase Klugh led the way for the Tigers with a 22:21. He was followed by Jeffery Henderson (22:58), Nick Henderson (23:54), Thomas Sweeney (25:55), Ryan Peek (28:32) and Zan Peek (28:47).
