Eagle Teams Place Fourth At MainStreet

The East Jackson cross country teams are hitting their stride at a good time, as the end of regular season looms.

Up next is the 8-AA Region Championship meet, coming up on Oct. 30 at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson. That will be followed by the 8-AA state championship on Nov. 6 at Carrollton.

East Jackson turned in two more strong performances last week in the MainStreet Meet in Jefferson, where they faced a host of teams from the surrounding area, including Jackson County, Jefferson, North Oconee and Apalachee.

The boys placed fourth out of 12 teams, trailing overall winner North Oconee, Union County and Madison County.

Cale Pirtle led the boys with a third-place overall finish out of 109 runners with a time of 18:14. Stuart Robinett was 26th (20:17), Edward Stone 30th (20:29), Michael Adair 33rd (20:32), Cory McClure 45th (21:01) and Tyler Cone 47th (21:07). Other runners included Quenton Rice (22:45) and Kyle Wood (23:53).

The girls also came away with a fourth-place finish out of nine teams to compete, trailing overall winner Jackson County, North Oconee and Jefferson.

Sherri Blalock paced the girls’ efforts with a second-place finish out of 70 runners with a time of 21:04. Courtney McDowell was 18th (24:06), Amanda Anderson 19th (25:07) and Skyler Cozzens 27th (25:08).
