Drew Named Commerce A.D.

The athletic director oversees all athletics including competitive cheerleading, oversees all booster club activities and is a liaison between the Athletic Department and the school administration, McCoy said.

Drew has been on the board of the Georgia High School Athletic Association for years, McCoy said.

He also said more principals are taking on AD roles, in part because of a perception that when a coach is athletic director, there is favoritism toward whatever sport he or she coaches.

“It’s going to be a good thing for the school,” McCoy promised.

Meanwhile, he said, the system continues to receive résumés and applications for the position of head football coach.

“We’re still sorting through them,” McCoy said. “We may not start interviewing until after the football season. We’ll keep it open for awhile.”

Savage retires as of Jan. 1 after 35 years in coaching, 33 of them at CHS.
