Jefferson’s 34-win season ended Saturday in the state tournament as the volley Dragons fell to St. Vincent’s Academy in Savannah.
Jefferson (34-11) fell in three games to the Saints, 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20. The Dragons set a school record for wins this year and won the 8-AA/A subarea title.
“I am proud of our team for competing so hard against a very good St. Vincent’s team,” coach Mike Paul said. “When the dust settles we will be able to look back on a great season, although right now it hurts that it is over.”
Leaders in the match against St. Vincent’s were Cassie Metcalf (three aces, three kills, one assist), Amanda Daniel (two aces, three kills, 13 assists), Taylor Cramsey (one ace, eight kills, one assist, one block), Eden Starnes (one ace, four kills), Sarah Wood (one kill) and Brianna Patterson (two aces).
Several members of Jefferson’s team had banner years in the stat book during a 45-match season.
Cramsey set four school records this fall for kills (358), kills per game (3.54), kill percentage (.351) and blocks (43). She also had 22 assists, 97 aces and 25 digs.
Daniel set a single-season Jefferson record with 636 assists. She also had 121 kills, 61 aces, 55 digs and 12 blocks.
Metcalf established a new all-time school mark with 150 aces.
Her other stats included 179 kills, 12 assists and 40 digs.
Starnes had 181 kills, 50 aces and 26 digs, while Wood finished with 120 kills, 77 assists, 61 aces and 16 digs.
Other notables were Savannah Holland (65 kills, 10 assists, 12 blocks) and Patterson (53 aces, 20 digs).
All these players return next year.
