Jackson County and Jefferson are facing each other on the football field for the first time since 1985.

The Dragons won that matchup, 10-6, 25 years ago, but who wins the long-awaited rematch?

I hear jackson co. is pulling out new offenses and every trick in the book to beat us.... not gonna happen... seems like desperation to me.

21-17, JCCHS wins. Neither team has anyone special on offense and after Jefferson's game last week (see article Dragon's Rocked in Granit Bowl) it doesn't seem that either team has much in the way of defense (51-7?)! So... I give the Panthers the edge.

You got to be kidding if you think Jackson has an edge, the simply fact that they have to put in a new offense tells you that they are desperate and the Coaches have no clue how to handle a game of this magnitude, especially the Head Coach. Look what happen with East Jackson! And the fact that at least Jefferson is playing like a team. Clearly gives Jefferson the edge in my opinion.

@Michael- You're right! What was I thinking? So sorry to upset you, especially with your obviously vast knowledge of high school football! How could I make such a silly mistake? I apologize for that! Maybe you could help to keep us all better informed by writing articles for the paper? Or better yet maybe you could start by giving us a synopsis of Jefferson's football program and the indirect relationship is has had to the community, with regards to the politcal and sociological effects, for past 40 to 50 years? That's what I thought, just shut up . Everyone here is entitled to their opinion, and I can have mine, if you don't like it, don't read it! I wouldn't have read your's if had not been directed at me! You may be excused! Now run along...

Nope, not a coach. Sorry if that disappoints you. Like you said the article is asking for OUR prediction, it said nothing about you bashing someone for their idea of what the score will be, but you go ahead, I don't disagree that Jefferson MIGHT win, that is why the game is played. I only made my observation of the two teams (based on the articles written here on Mainstreet and in other publications), not once have I said anything derogatory towards your (nor Michael's or hilarious, who are the ones that started all of this) prediction, oh wait you didn't make one. Neither did hilarious. What is it? Who's going to win, what's the score going to be? Be sure to remember to post your "bold prediction". Wish this was a job, this would almost be fun.

I am a panther but the coach at county needs to pick one qb and stick with him. Jeffersons down this year but will still win.

Jefferson 38 jc 0.be honest. no hope for the panthers. Jefferson is down but were never really up.Jc is down but that is to be expected. Jefferson blows jc out. Jc fans make excuses. Kirk changes qb, and the season continues as a down year for two programs with one glimmer of light for jefferson. A win over jc

Being a jackson county varsity starter I know that the game on friday will be huge; huge for us and Jefferson. It will be a hard fought game and both of us have an equal opportunity to win the game. Jefferson has some strengths and weaknesses and so do we. Personally I cant wait until friday night, I have been waiting since 6th grade to play them, when Zach and Kyle abandoned Jackson County and decided to play for Jefferson, so hopefully we will show them up, but if we lose, we will do it with class.

Jackson County all the way!!! What fun it will be to be together again for tradition sake! Let's just enjoy! Get over all the hatefulness some people have! Good old fashioned rivalry is fine but down right hatefulness is the devil's brew. Watch yourselves.

county 21 Jefferson 7. Panthers have some weapons in storage, that might be used Friday. Panther D-line is very, very, good. As long as all of Panther starters are ready to come back I think the Panther will win. GO BIG BLACK!

Panthers roll in the "rivalry that should be." It's crazy that JCCHS and JHS don't play every year. Forget classification... these two schools are in the same small town, the kids largely know one another and should meet for a spirited game every year.

Jackson County did beat Jefferson in a jamboree game back in 2002, 7-3. Of course it was a practice game and didn't count, but it was a fun game to watch nonetheless.

JC has all of their starters back this week for the first time in a month. If Jackson County can avoid turnovers on offense (pick a starting quarterback!), I think the Panther defense will assure a close win.

Well, here is the bottom line on the jefferson vs Jackson Co. thing. Jefferson is now playing the caliber of competetion that Jackson has faced for many years, North Oconee, Elbert Co. and Hart will rule this region in football probably from now on, the play-off runs are now over for Jefferson who played NO body for a 100 years, North Oconee gets players from all over like Buford and this allows them to compete, Jefferson get Jackson Co's players and in this region it will not help them a bit!!!

Poor Jackson Co. and Kirk. can't get it together. Jefferson rocked Jackson. The score did not reflect how bad Jackson is.

Jefferson would like to thank all the folks who abandoned Jackson Co. to move to East Jackson so that Jackson Co. could move down to 8AA. It was getting old having to drive way up in the mountains to kick butt. Now we can do this in our own county. I just hope East Jackson doesn't get to big that they move up to 8AAA. Would not want to lose an easy win!

I am just glad that my children attend a school system that does not feel the need to recruit players. I am proud to say that my children attend Jackson County Schools. We have 3 fine school systems in Jackson County. Dragon Dad, you pretty much said it all. Jefferson evidently has to recruit players in order to have a successful program. Gone on for a long time. (BTW, I am a Jefferson alumni.)

I agree with Panther Mom.
I am a student at Jackson County and yeah, we haven't been doing so well but we sure do have class and don't give up. If you havent noticed, we have lost a lot of injured seniors.
Also, I would like to point out that our school does NOT RECRUIT people.
If you HAVENT NOTICED, a lot of your team players are from Jackson County. Just think, if they never would have transfered schools, we would be the top dogs.
I don't wanna hear everyone bashing Jackson County. We probably have the most faithful team in Jackson County. It does not matter what the records are in the end, its the heart of the game that counts.

Wow. Didn't mean to get the moms mad. I will give Jackson Co. credit where credit is due. The team and fans have class unlike East Jackson who's team trashed our facilities. It appears the thugs are the ones that left Jackson County. Bye the way, East Jackson took several good athletes away from Jefferson also. Didn't seem to help them.
