Spartans Hand Commerce First Region Loss of 2010, 28-21

The Commerce Tigers recorded their first region loss of the season Friday night, falling to the Spartans of Athens Academy 28-21.

After a scoreless first quarter, a Commerce interception late in the second quarter gave the Tigers a chance to be the first on the board. They were unable to collect on the opportunity, and the game remained scoreless at halftime.

The Spartans would finally be the first to get on the board, breaking into the Commerce end zone in the third quarter.

Commerce would answer soon after, scoring their first touchdown of the night to make it 7-7.

With two minutes left in the third quarter, Athens Academy scored again, taking 14-7 lead. Commerce would come roaring back to score it 14-14.

The game would remain scored until late in the fourth quarter, when the Spartans scored again to take a 20-14 lead after a failed extra point attempt.

Commerce would take their first lead of the night shortly thereafter, when a touchdown gave them a 21-20 edge.

With less than a minute left, the Spartans would score again, and a successful two-point conversion gave them the 28-21 lead.

Athens Academy would hold Commerce at bay through the final minute to take the 28-21 lead.

Commerce will play host to Prince Avenue on Friday. Kick off is slated for 8 p.m.
