It has been a rough season so far on the gridiron for the Madison County Red Raiders.
This Friday night as Madison County heads to Conyers to face Rockdale County doesn’t look to be any easier on the Red Raiders.
“They are what they are,” Randell Owens, Madison County football head coach said. “They will come after us looking to set up big plays using the pass.”
Rockdale is 3-4 this season and is probably looking forward to next week and a week off. Madison County was off last week and enters into the Oct. 15 game refreshed and without a lot to lose, which makes the Red Raiders dangerous as Rockdale is looking for an easy homecoming victory.
With the past week off, Madison County went back to fundamentals in practice and Owens said that he really wants to see the Red Raiders play for a full four quarters on Friday. This week in practice, Madison County plugs back into the game plan looking to execute.
“Hopefully we will perform better,” he said. “Being on the road really isn’t a factor for us. It’s not like in college. … I actual prefer playing on the road, you have all the players on the bus and focused. The multi-county officials also do a good job, but officiating usually isn’t a big factor down there.”
Rockdale has a strong presence in the competition between the schools. The Bulldogs have won the past three encounters.
Madison County, on paper, does look to have the advantage this season scoring four more points on average than Rockdale per game. The question is how much Madison County wants the win.
“It’s the next game and we are focused on winning the next game,” Owens said.
Friday’s game in Conyers kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
