Lady Eagles Bested By Athens Christian

The East Jackson Lady Eagles volleyball team saw its 2010 campaign come to a close last week with postseason losses to Prince Avenue and Athens Christian.

On Oct. 5, East Jackson faced the Lady Wolverines of Prince Avenue, falling 2-0, as Prince Avenue won with set scores of 28-26 and 25-18.

In the first set, the Lady Eagles led 24-21 late but after losing a middle blocker to injury, couldn’t hold onto the lead. It was a similar story in the second set, with a tight score until an East Jackson outside hitter was injured, opening the door for the Lady Wolverines to win.

Haley Simmons had four kills, two blocks and one dig on the night. Kiersten Meehan had two kills and two digs, Jill Edmondson had three assists, three digs and two aces, Bria Youngs picked up her first varsity kill, and Urlissa Sheffield recorded her first varsity dig during the night.

Prince Avenue went on to finish second in the area.

Up next was a Thursday match against Athens Christian, a team that had bested East Jackson twice earlier in the season.

The Lady Eagles lost the first set, then came back to win the second set, giving them a chance to win the match but Athens Christian won the third set and the match, ending the Lady Eagles’ season.
