The Commerce Tigers went to 2-0 in region play after defeating their newest region rivals, the Riverside Eagles, 32-21 Friday night.
The Tigers took control early, scoring a touchdown just over three and a half minutes into the game. A blocked PAT made it 6-0.
Riverside would take a brief lead, scoring with just over four minutes left in the quarter, making it 7-0.
The Tigers dodged a bullet when a Riverside touchdown with less than half a second to go was called back on a penalty. Commerce would regain control of the ball, and score just over three minutes later. A failed two-point conversion made it a 12-7 ball game.
With just over five minutes left in the half, Commerce would score again. For the second time, the PAT was blocked by the Eagles, making it an 18-7 game.
Riverside moved into field goal position with 10 seconds left in the half, but could not make goal.
Commerce would score again with four minutes left in the third quarter. A successful PAT this time made it a 25-7 lead.
The Eagles scored again two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, and made a successful two-point conversion to make it a 25-15 ball game.
The Tigers scored again with just over three and a half minutes left to play, making it a 32-15 lead.
Riverside would score one more time as the buzzer sounded. With no extra point, the game ended with Commerce winning 32-21.
Up next is a road trip to Athens to face the Spartans of Athens Academy. They entered play Friday night with a 1-1 region record. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
