Led by Cara Smith’s 21:28, Jefferson’s girls finished third in the Patriot Races Saturday in Oglethorpe County.
Smith finished sixth overall. Reece Bowles, who finished 13th, added a 22:02 as the Lady Dragons finished with 94 points.
Jefferson placed behind region rivals East Jackson (82 points) and Jackson County (45 points). Nine girls squads competed in the event.
Rounding out the scoring were Allison Missler (16th, 22:40), Laura Price (29th, 23:38) and Holly Baron (37th, 24:02).
Meanwhile, Jefferson’s boys’ team finished seventh out of 12 squads.
Trae Timmerman led the effort with an 18:59 and a 20th-place finish. Jefferson had three other runners break 20 minutes — Kyle Kashuba (19:05, 21st), Jake Sherman (19:12, 23rd) and Alec Jameson (19:49, 39th). Andrew Ocock (21:02, 62nd) rounded out the scoring.
Coach Allen Thompson noted solid efforts for both the boys and girls
“Great individual performances by Cara Smith, Reese Bowles and Trae Timmerman,” he said.
Thompson also noted the performances of three junior varsity runners Kaylynn Rainey (24:57), Kayla Adams (25:25) and Jacob Adams (20:24).
Rainey won the girls’ junior varsity race, while Kayla Adams was second. Jacob Adams was third in the junior varsity boys’ race.
