Lady Eagles End Season At Fannin

A final win sent the East Jackson Lady Eagles to the postseason, but two quick losses brought the season to its conclusion.

The Lady Eagles wrapped up their regular season last week with a 1-0 win over Jackson County.

East Jackson scored the only run of the game when freshman Brittany Nolan knocked in a run in the first inning on a single.

From there, neither team could muster a run, although East Jackson just missed adding to its total when two runners were thrown out at home.

Taylor Nix got the win, pitching the entire game.

“Really, overall, we played our best defensive game of the year,” said coach Jason Rainey. “Taylor pitched her best game of the year. I thought we could have scored a few more runs.”

“You can’t get any better than that in a rivalry game,” Rainey added.

The win sent the Lady Eagles to Fannin County Monday night for the opening of 8-AA region tournament play. East Jackson opened tournament against the Fannin Lady Rebels and fell 4-1, sending East Jackson to the losers’ bracket.

That put the Eagles up against Jackson County, which had been bested by Banks County in its tournament opener.

Unlike the previous game against the Lady Panthers, things didn’t go as well for East Jackson, as Jackson County came away with the 8-1 victory, ending the Lady Eagles’ 2010 season.
