The Red Raiders’ softball team looks to defend the region title this week as the team hosts the region championships (today) Thursday.
Madison County (27-3) will take on Heritage (23-7) at 6:30 p.m. Before the championship game, Habersham Central will face Loganville for third place at 4:30 p.m. at Red Raider stadium.
Heritage defeated Habersham in the three game series Monday, after splitting Saturday’s games. Madison County took care of business Saturday against Loganville, 6-3, 9-1.

One game away from region title
“We have played Heritage twice already,” said Red Raiders’ coach Doug Kesler. “They are well coached and probably have the best catcher in the state. They also have good hitters and a solid team.”
During the regular season, Madison County defeated Heritage 10-4 in the Morgan County tournament, then defeated Heritage again to secure the top seed in the region in a 9-4 outing.
“We were fortunate the first two times to get hits,” said Kesler. “It’s going to be tougher now.”
With the region title and seeding for the state playoffs hanging in the balance, Madison County is looking for a win this evening.
According to Kesler, the girls are focused, and with the return of Ivie Drake on Saturday, the team is at full strength.
