BCHS improves to 4-1 after 27-0 shutout

Shutting down the passing game was key for Banks County last week in the win over Union as the Leopards played a strong defensive game for all four quarters.

“We had a great week of practice last week and when we came out it showed,” Armstrong said. “We are having another week of clear weather and are looking to have another great week of practice. We felt like if we could get the guys ready to fight one out and win that first game we can keep that going.”

“Being 4-1 right now is huge,” he said. “I think this is the first time this has happened for this program since 1997. It gives us the opportunity to look at running the table.”

Banks County is tied for first in the north side of the 8-AA region, along with East Hall and Dawson County. A win Friday night for the Leopards, would put Banks County in a stronger position for the region play-in game in November.

While Dawson County may be 1-4 overall, the Tigers spent the early games playing up against several AAA teams. Fannin County was 2-2 going into the game and the favored team. Dawson County not only got the upset victory but also broke the Tigers’ nine game losing streak.

Banks County can’t afford to get cocky as the Leopards head to Dawsonville. All it takes is a look back to week three (East Jackson) to see that they have to go onto the field ready to fight.

“It is an away game this week, but unlike some teams we seem to play strong on the road,” Armstrong said. “We came out of the gate hard last week and the guys have learned to compete. We keep our confidence up and continue to work hard, we can play against anyone in the region.”

Friday night, the Leopards head to Dawson County to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
