BOGART — Bryant Shirreffs accounted for 205 yards of total offense and two touchdowns and Cole Givens had four catches for 100 yards, but it wasn’t enough carry Jefferson past North Oconee Friday.
Jefferson (2-3) fell 35-22 to the unbeaten Titans (5-0, 2-0) and dropped to 0-2 in subregion play. This was the Dragons’ first-ever loss to North Oconee.
Jefferson will try to stop its two-game slide and get into the win column in subregion play next week against winless Oglethorpe County (0-6, 0-3) at home.
In Friday’s loss, the Dragons got touchdown runs from Shirreffs and Chris Jackson (20 yards), while Shirreffs threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Hoytes Damons. Asher Orr also kicked a 34-yard field goal.
A Jefferson fourth-quarter touchdown to cut North Oconee’s lead to 28-22 but standout Titan running back Lane Thompson returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown to put a dagger in the Dragons’ upset hopes. Thompson also had a 47-yard touchdown run earlier in the game.
Jefferson gets to return home next Friday for only its second home game of the season when it faces Oglethorpe County. The Patriots are coming off a 7-0 loss to Jackson County.
