MCHS runners take second at home

It was a low-key meet for the Madison County cross-country team last week as the Red Raiders hosted East Jackson and Commerce Tuesday.

Madison County finished second of the three teams, which had all the runners running as one group. East Jackson took first place and Commerce third.

While the Red Raiders had three top ten individual runners, there was still some disappointment as Madison County could have had runners place higher.


One runner, which coach Allyson Terrell was expecting to finish in the top five, was Codey Brakhage. He had finished inside the top 20 during the Eagle Run and was leading Madison County’s runners at the start of Tuesday’s meet.

“A few of my runners did not seem to take it too seriously,” said Terrell.

Codey finished 25th of 27 runners at 33:13. Brother, Corey, took third and led the Red Raiders with a 19:56 finish, followed by Ben Larkins in fifth place at 21:37. Finishing as Madison County’s number three, Steven Tucker was sixth overall at 21:40.

Finishing together in 17th, 18th and 19th was Russ Haagen (27:18), Dalton Owensby (27:19) and Alex Forisek (27:50).

Coming up for the runners is an away meet at Jefferson High School, Oct. 12.
