Jackson County’s cross country teams will run in another large meet and face their closest rivals yet again.
The squads will compete Saturday in the Patriot Races at Oglethorpe County where several Region 8-AA South teams will be present.
Jackson County — especially the girls’ team — will be able to gauge where it stands against its toughest rivals, Jefferson and East Jackson.
The Lady Panthers beat both squads at the Northeast Georgia Championships Aug. 28 and again at the Eagle Run Sept. 18.
The Jackson County girls’ team’s goal is to win the region meet come late October.
“I think Saturday will tell us a lot about this last month,” coach Joseph Brubaker said.
The Jackson County girls’ team continued its winning ways last week, winning a five-team meet at Athens Christian.
Brittany Aikens and Rachel Pasko finished first and second overall to lead the Lady Panthers to the victory.
“Both Brittany and Rachel both ran really well … It was a tough day to race,” Brubaker said.
Freshman J.T. Wood had another solid race on the boys’ side, finishing ninth overall. Also highlighting the Panthers was Dusty Haralson, who finished 20th.
“I think it’s good that we continue to race,” Brubaker said. “I hope we can see some improvement and our hard work pay off.”
