The East Jackson Eagles made it 2-0 in region play Friday night by picking up a win over the Patriots of Oglethorpe County, 39-12.
The Eagles took control early off of two touchdowns. However, the point after attempts failed, leaving East Jackson with a 12-0 advantage.
With just under two minutes left in the half, another successful trip into the Patriots end zone made it a 19-0 game at the half.
Less than two minutes into the third quarter, a Oglethorpe County fumble was recovered by the Eagles and run back for a 31-yard touchdown, making it a 26-0 lead.
The Patriots answered just a few seconds later, scoring on a 93-yard run to make it a 26-6 game after East Jackson blocked the extra point.
Another Patriot fumble gave the Eagles an opening early in the fourth quarter. They would capitalize on that opportunity seconds later by scoring on a 60-yard touchdown run, making it 33-6.
With just under six minutes remaining, East Jackson would score again, this time on a 81-yard run that made it 39-6 for the Eagles.
Oglethorpe County would score again just as the final buzzer sounded, but had no opportunity at the extra point, as the Eagles won 39-12.
Up next for East Jackson is homecoming, as they host Hart County on Oct. 1. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
