Tigers Win Two In A Row

The Commerce Lady Tigers have picked up two wins in a row after recording a victory last Tuesday over the Lady Eagles of Athens Christian.

Next, they’ll head to Hiawassee Thursday at 5:00 to face the Towns County Lady Indians, who enter play this week still looking for their first victory of 2010.

“They’ve been struggling, so hopefully they’ll continue in that mode,” said coach Pam Canup. “(Coach Shannon Floyd) works them hard and works at them to play better. I know they’ll be fired up to play us.”

That will be followed by the Commerce Tournament on Saturday. Towns County, Social Circle, Pickens County and Franklin County all slated to take part.

The first pitch in game one is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

Last Tuesday was the second meeting of Commerce and Athens Christian this season. Back on Sept. 9, the Lady Eagles beat Commerce 12-1.

This time, things went differently for the Lady Tigers, who played the game wearing pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Commerce came away with the 4-3 win, picking up their second region win of the year.

Kayla Burks recorded the win on the mound, striking out five while walking just two. She was backed up at the plate by Brooke Vickery with two hits, along with Jessica Parkerson, Drea Mathis, Jessika Kyle and

Kaylee Partin with one hit each. Nikki Dotson had two sacrifices to advance runners.
