Lady Leopards struggle with injuries late in the season

With late season injuries pestering the team, the girls have been working to overcome the absence of starting pitcher Jordan Rogers. Banks County’s luck turned bad in the second week of September when the Lady Leopards attended the Evans Invitational in Augusta. Three straight losses in that tourney shook Banks, but it looked like the ladies were bouncing back, picking up the final two wins at the invitational.

The return to region competition against Dawson County started another three-game losing streak that the Lady Leopards want to break out from this Thursday when the girls head to East Hall to face the Vikings.

East Hall (0-15,0-6) should be a pushover, at least according to the numbers on paper, but with the bumps and bruises the Lady Leopards have taken this season, it could be a fight to stay alive for Banks. Game time is set for 5:55 p.m. at East Hall.

Next week, the Lady Leopards close out the regular season with two home games. On Tuesday, the team faces Rabun County, another 0-6-region opponent.

Banks has not dropped a game against Rabun in three seasons, including an earlier 2010 meeting that was 14-5 for Banks County. Following the Rabun County game, Banks County hosts Dawson County on Sept. 30 in a revenge bout to make up for the 7-2 loss.

Updated: In a last minute change the Senior Night game against Dawson County has been moved to Wednesday, Sept. 29. The date change is due to all the homecoming festivities already taking part on Thursday, according to BCHS administration.

September 29 is also Senior Night for the Lady Leopards, with the three senior ladies being honored. Brooke Harris, Courtney Entrekin and Laura Rose Pickens have been the old hands this season.

The game starts at 5:55 p.m. with the Senior Night ceremonies prior to the game.

This past Tuesday, Sept. 21, the girls fell to Fannin County 6-1.
