Volley Cats return to winning form

After falling to Flowery Branch 25-17, 25-18, coach Joey Alfonso’s squad responded with a 27-25, 25-20 victory.

AHS then swept Monroe Area and Salem two days later. Those wins improve the Lady Cats to 25-1 overall and 6-1 in area play.

“We came out a little nervous against Flowery Branch,” Alfonso said. “They were the first real big test we’ve had. I wanted the girls to play with some pressure on them.”
The coach noted 13 unforced errors in the games against Flowery Branch were simply too many.

“We have to do some things better in order not to self destruct in those situations,” Alfonso said. “Some things we can control.”

In the road games at Salem, the AHS coach said his team played better but still “not great.”

“You are going to have ups and downs during a season,” Alfonso said. “We peaked early after having a strong summer. Hopefully, we will be hungrier now and recapture that successful formula we’ve been having.”

AHS will host Rockdale County Tuesday, Sept. 28, in an area match.
