Tigers Vs. Tigers Friday

Commerce has faced Washington-Wilkes twice in its history, having lost in both instances. The last time was at CHS in 2001, where Commerce fell 49-26.

One of the two teams will notch its first win of the season. Washington-Wilkes enters play this week having dropped its first two games to Thomson, 35-0, on Aug. 27 and to Holy Innocents, 20-8, on Sept. 3. They were off last week.

“Washington-Wilkes is big, athletic and they’re going to put 11 of them in the box and give us problems,” said Commerce coach Steve Savage. “We’re going to have to come up with something to handle that.”

Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

North Oconee

North Oconee soon took charge of Friday night’s game and dominated the Tigers.

The Titans’ first opportunity to score came just over three minutes into the game when a field goal went wide right.

The Titans would push deep into Commerce territory on their next possession, but a fumble on the Commerce eight-yard line gave the Tigers possession again, and kept the game scoreless through the first quarter.

That changed just 45 seconds into the second quarter, when the Titans went up 7-0 on a 20-yard run.

With less than five minutes left in the half the Titans blocked a Tiger punt, then recovered the ball to take over on Commerce’s 14-yard line. A little over a minute later, The Titans broke back into Commerce’s end zone to take a 14-0 lead.

North Oconee would add a third touch down with less than a minute on the clock to carry a 21-0 lead into the half.

Another Commerce fumble with just 1:10 left in the third quarter again opened the door for the Titans. One play later, the Titans had a 28-0 lead.

The Titans scored twice more before the final buzzer to take the 42-0 win.
