The East Jackson Lady Eagles softball team rolls into the second week of September looking for its first win of the season after losing to Jefferson and Jackson County last week.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Elberton for a region double header Thursday starting at 5 p.m. The Lady Blue Devils enter the week in the midst of a five-game losing streak. They currently stand 2-10 overall and winless in region play.
Coach Jason Rainey said he expects strong hitting and fielding from Elbert County.
East Jackson will follow Thursday’s play with the Veterans Memorial Tournament in Watkinsville over the weekend.
The week started off on a rough note for the Lady Eagles, as they traveled to Jefferson to face the 9-4-1 Lady Dragons on Aug. 31.
Jefferson jumped out to a sizeable lead early with five runs in the bottom of the first. East Jackson scored one run in the top of the second, which was answered by Jefferson with a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Lady Dragons added four runs in the third, and another three the fourth while keeping East Jackson away from home plate. Jefferson came away with a 13-1 win in four innings.
Kelsey Palette gave up the loss, pitching three and two-thirds innings, giving up 12 hits and 13 runs.
Palette went 1-1 at the plate with a run scored. Rebecca Turner went 1-1 with an RBI.
Things went a little better on Thursday, when the Lady Eagles traveled to JCCHS to face the Lady Panthers.
After going five scoreless innings, East Jackson pitcher Taylor Nix walked two. That was followed by Jackson County’s lone hit of the game, which scored the two base runners, giving the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead.
East Jackson rallied in the top of the seventh, as Brittney Nolan reached a hit. A triple by Rebekah Turner scored Nolan and put the tying run on third. But she would be stranded, as the Lady Panthers shut East Jackson down to win 2-1.
