Shaun Hill plays a position that normally doesn’t receive a great deal of publicity.
Despite this, the Apalachee High School senior lineman is already gaining the attention of those who following the sport of football closely. Hill, a senior lineman for the Wildcats this fall, has earned the attention of scouts from such schools as the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga as well as the Air Force Academy.
What others are learning has been known by the AHS coaches for some time.
“He is simply a good football player and a great kid,” said Wildcat head coach Shane Davis. “He is extremely strong and physical. He has been a big contributor for us the last two seasons. You know what you are going to get every day from Shaun.”
Already, Hill has made an impact during his senior season as he helped the Wildcat offense score 35 points in the season opener last week against Habersham Central.
“He’s a great kid to have in your program,” Davis said. “We expect him to really do well this season. He has to have a good year for us to do well. With players like him, you like to think you know what you are going to get.”
AHS offensive coordinator Joel Miller is also quick to point out what type of impact Hill has as well as what type of character the young man displays.
“First and foremost Shaun is a quality person and a wonderful representative of Apalachee High school and our football program,” Miller said. “He is an extremely hard worker and is very dedicated to improving himself and our team. Talent wise he is probably one of the best — if not the best — we have ever had here.”
The senior’s strength is also one of his biggest assets.
“He is extremely strong and quick which helps him make up for any lack of size that he may have,” Miller said. “He is very intelligent which allows us to move him around on the offensive line as the situation and games dictates. He is for sure a college football player and some college will get a steal. He is one of those players that will be very difficult to replace.”
As one of the players in the trenches on the offensive line, Davis noted it takes an unselfish player to excel in this role.
“The offensive line is a very tough place to play,” the head coach said. “It’s a very physical position and you aren’t going to get a lot of recognition. However, we aren’t going to be successful if players like him take even one down off"
Hill and AHS travel to Flowery Branch next Friday in an attempt to keep their regular season win streak alive Friday.
