MCHS looking for a win

Madison County’s volleyball team is still looking for a win, but the girls are improving with more time on the floor.

Last week, the Lady Raiders traveled to Habersham Central on Tuesday. It was Raiders versus Raiders as it came down to a battle for the third game to determine who would win the match.

After losing the first game 25-19, Madison County fought back and pulled the victory away from Habersham in a 25-22 second game. With the fight on in the third game, it was down to the wire as both sides traded points. Habersham slipped by in the end to win 32-30 over Madison County.


“We lost two games to one, but we played amazing,” said coach Kristen DeLay.

Leading the team in service aces, Ali House and Kaitlyn Hale rallied the team. Christina Hart, one of the younger faces on the team, led in blocks, while Amber Fitzpatrick led the team in digs.

“All of the girls played really well in the second game,” Delay said, “And the third game was back and forth.”

Following Habersham, Madison County’s next opponents were at home as the Lady Raiders, hosted Oconee County and Cedar Shoals Thursday.

In the opening match against Oconee County, Madison County couldn’t get going. The Lady Raiders fell 25-9 and 25-7 to Oconee County.

In the second match, Cedar Shoals picked up the first game 25-14, but the Lady Raiders turned it around in the second game with a 25-12 win. In the deciding third game, Cedar Shoals came back out on top 25-11. House led the team in kills and Carly Cahoon led the team in digs.

Madison County played Heritage on Tuesday night, coming away with another 0-2 match. Madison County is now 0-6; 0-3 for the season and is next scheduled to play Prince Avenue and Hart County Tuesday at Hart County. Games will start at 6 p.m.
