Lady Raiders move to 6-1 for season

The Madison County Lady Raiders are 6-1 for the season after shutting down North Oconee Monday night.

With Apalachee visiting today, (Thursday) at 7 p.m., Madison County looks for a region win before finishing up the delayed Leadoff Classic on Saturday.

Against Apalachee, the Wildcats have a one game advantage in the series between the schools, 4-3, since 2008.

Yet, Madison County came out the victor in the last meeting, 3-0, in the 2009 season.

Thursday’s game is the third region game for the Lady Raiders and the girls want the win before heading into the weekend. On Saturday, Madison County finishes up the Leadoff Classic, taking on Walnut Grove at 3 p.m.

Next week, the ladies face two more region opponents — first up is Flowery Branch on Tuesday, followed by Winder-Barrow on Thursday. Madison County will play at home on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m., then head to Winder to play at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Last week, the Lady Raiders suffered their first loss of the season to region opponent Loganville.

A 10-inning battle went south for Madison County as a few faults on some routine plays made the difference. Loganville slipped past for the 7-6 win.

On Monday, Madison County returned to the win column with a 6-0 shutout over North Oconee.

The seven inning game was part of the Leadoff Classic make up and leaves the Lady Raiders 5-0 in the tournament, heading into Saturday to face Walnut Grove in the final round.
