The East Jackson Lady Eagle volleyball team experienced mixed results last week, beating Madison County and Walnut Grove but dropping two matches to West Hall.
They will host Alcovy and Gainesville Thursday. Start time against Alcovy is 5 p.m., with the Gainesville match to follow at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles beat Alcovy 2-0 on the opening weekend. Thursday will mark the first meeting against Gainesville.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Eagles fell 2-0 to West Hall in set scores of 22-25 and 11-25 They rebounded in their later match against Madison County, besting the Lady Red Raiders 2-1 in sets of 25-17, 21-25 and 25-20.
“We came out terribly flat against West Hall,” said coach Tim Thomas. “Our girls got frustrated with themselves and never could recover. That carried over into the second match, and we came close to letting that one slip away too. We knew our girls were much better than they played Tuesday and fortunately they got the chance to prove it Thursday.”
On Thursday, East Jackson traveled to Walnut Grove to face the Lady Warriors and West Hall.
The Lady Eagles started off well, defeating Walnut Grove 2-0 in sets of 25-23 and 26-24. Against West Hall, East Jackson fared better than they did the first time, but still came up on the short end of a 2-1
score, with sets of 25-21, 13-25, 25-20.
“Walnut Grove has improved tremendously since last year, and they played us hard at their place Thursday,” Thomas said. “In the end, our serving made the difference. That was also true against West Hall, as we beat them in the first set, thanks mostly to six aces from four different players. Passing was good in that one too, as we had six players combine for 12 digs. We dropped the second set but played them even in the third.”
