Lady Raiders moving past defeat looking for season improvements

The girls have a few days to work on playing as a team as the next match is Aug. 24,at Habersham.

Both the varsity and junior varsity teams will be playing as Madison County takes on Rabun County and Habersham next Tuesday. The first match is at 6 p.m. against Rabun, with the Habersham match to follow at 7 p.m.

While the opening was bumpy for the team, DeLay is expecting things to smooth out as the season continues.

“I'm expecting improvement from last year,” she said. “In the 2009 season, we won 7 matches, 3 of which were region wins. This year, I am hoping for a winning record when all is said and done.”

Leading the team as captains are seniors Kaitlyn Hale and Katie Akins.

“Both girls are well-rounded players and will lead our team well,” Delay said.

Also stepping up from the junior class, returning players Jessica Cooper and Amber Fitzpatrick are being looked at to help bring the team along.

“The most important things that a successful team requires are cooperation and communication with one another and myself, hustle, and a competitive drive to do their very best every time we step onto the court: home or away, game or practice,” said DeLay. “If we can accomplish these things, we'll have a successful season. I am looking forward to what this season has in store.”
