The 2010 cross country season gets underway next Tuesday.

Madison County’s cross country team is ready to lace up and hit the course.

With the exception of four graduated seniors; the team returns the majority of last season’s team, according to coach Allyson Terrell.

With the season starting next Tuesday at home, Terrell is expecting to see good times from her runners. In particular, Corey Brakhage is expected to be a big asset for the team, along with his twin brother, Codey.

“I expect the Brakhage twins to be the lead runners,” Terrell said.

Another experienced runner for the team is Mark Pulliam, whose efforts are also going to help push the team further this season.
Two newcomers who have caught Terrell’s attention and are showing promise are Isacc Ruiz and Steven Tucker.

“I expect to see Ruiz and Tucker improve and become an asset to the team,” said Terrell.

While the boys’ team is shaping up for the season, the girls’ team hit a ditch as another low turnout plagued the team just as in last season. However, Terrell is optimistic that the number of girls interested in running cross country will improve as the season gets under way.

The first meet for Madison County cross country is Aug. 24, at home as the team hosts East Jackson and Hart County. Then at the end of the month, Aug. 28, the team travels to Athens Christian for the Northeast Georgia Championships.
