MCHS looks for improvements before Flowery Branch opener

“We were trying to find someone who was going to give our kids a heads up as to what they were going to see in game one against Flowery Branch,” he said. “Here is the level you have to play to.”

Even expecting the fight, Madison County still had some areas where the green showed through.

“Our youth and inexperience really showed up,” Owens said, adding as an example, a fair catch off a punt that should been allowed to go into the end zone.

“The good news is that everything I saw is correctable,” said Owens. “We are going to have to see how many improvements we can make over the next week to close the gap. As coaches we know that teams make their biggest improvements between game one and game two.”

This week, the gridiron Red Raiders are back on the field Thursday for the Red vs. Gray scrimmage. The middle school starts at 5 p.m., with the varsity team splitting to play at 7:30 p.m.

This week and next week in practice, the Red Raiders will focus on the big opener against Flowery Branch. Owens said the Red Raiders were going to be focused on all areas during practice and it was going to be “from the ground up” work.
