Lady Eagles Open Season With 2-2 Run

The Lady Eagles came close in their final match of the day against Loganville. After losing the first set 25-18, East Jackson came back to win the second set 25-12. But they fell just short in the third set, losing 25-23 to give Loganville the 2-1 victory.

“We pushed our starters very hard on Saturday, probably a little more than we should have,” said coach Tim Thomas. “Five of our six starters played more than 300 points over a six-hour period, and by the end of the day they had absolutely nothing left. They gave us everything they had, and they worked extremely well together.”

Thomas said while the outcome may not have been what the team wanted, his players’ effort in the third set against Loganville was an “amazing performance.”

“I don’t know that our girls can top the level of effort and teamwork they showed in that set. We jumped out to an early lead and had them at 20-13, but it was obvious that our energy level was near zero.
Our girls gave all they had left, but just couldn’t hold on.”

Thomas said while it counted as a loss, it was a memorable moment.

“You really can’t describe a moment like that with words, and I doubt you could have appreciated it without being right there on the bench,” he said. “It was the most remarkable athletic moment I’ve experienced since my own high school days.”
