With nine days remaining before the start of the 2010 high school football season, many area teams are scrimmaging with other schools to size up their strengths and their weaknesses.
Not the Commerce Tigers, however. While the Tigers will hold a couple of inter-squad scrimmages, according to head football coach Steve Savage, they won’t line up against another team until they host Jefferson in the season opener on Aug. 27.
It’s nothing new for Commerce. The Tigers haven’t scrimmaged against another team for four or five years. Savage says he doesn’t know that the benefits outweigh the risks in a scrimmage.
