Lady Raiders starting on Tuesday

While things are heating up outside on the softball and football fields, the Madison County High School gym is also getting its share of action as the MCHS volleyball team starts its season.

After holding tryouts last week, head coach Kristen DeLay has her team set for this season and the Lady Raiders are ready to start action next Tuesday at West Hall.

Madison County will play two varsity only matches on Tuesday, the first against hosting team West Hall at 5 p.m. and the second against East Jackson at 6 p.m. The girls then have a few days off before getting into the regular Tuesday-Thursday schedule.

Returning on Aug. 24, the Lady Raiders head to Habersham County, facing both the JV and varsity teams against Rabun County at 6 p.m. and Habersham at 7 p.m.

For the varsity team this season, two seniors are backed up by a large group of junior players. Katie Akins and Kaitlyn Hale are the old hands this season, playing in their senior year for the team.

The junior class for the volleyball team fills the ranks as Carly Cahoon, Jessica Cooper, Caitlin Dove, Amber Fitzpatrick and Ali House rotate onto the court this year. Ashlyn Blalock, Julia Garcia and Christina Hart, all sophomores, finish out the varsity roster for the 2010 season.
