Lady Tigers Open New Season Thurs.

With the loss of several seniors from last year’s team, the Commerce Lady Tigers softball team looks to regroup as it prepares for the 2010 season.

When the varsity team takes to the field in their season opener this Thursday at Towns County, they will have only two position players returning – second base and center field.

All the other positions were held by seniors, which means the Lady Tigers will have a whole new look on the field this season.

“We’re going to have some bumps and bruises, but I see improvement and I think we’ll come along,” CHS head softball coach Pam Canup said.

In all, six Lady Tigers graduated in the spring.

Canup said a lot of talented freshmen have come out, along with several sophomores, juniors and seniors moving up to fill in the many vacancies.

Canup said taking part in summer league play helped her figure out who would be where this fall.

“During the summer league play, everybody played at some point, giving us a look at what everybody can do in action rather than on the practice field,” she said.
