Lady Tigers Zero In On New Season

With the 2010 softball season looming on the horizon, the Commerce Lady Tigers are in a rebuilding mode.

But after going 12-12 overall and 7-3 in the region last year, Commerce also seeks some improvement. The Lady Tigers are currently taking part in an eight-game summer series to get some experience under their belts.

They enter 2010 after losing six seniors from last year’s team.

Coach Pam Canup said a number of her girls have been playing travel ball and have come in ready to play.

“Other than second base, we’ve got to replace the whole infield, and we’ve got two outfielders coming back,” Canup said. “As far as inexperience, they’re going to be playing different positions. But a lot of the girls have been playing travel ball, so a lot of them got a lot of good playing time.”

Canup said so far this summer, she’s had a number of rising ninth graders come out.
