12-Year-Old Boys Head To State

They opened with a loss to Lumpkin County, then came back to defeat Barrow County, the Hall County Hurricanes, the Hall County Vipers, and Dawson County. They then went on to best the same Lumpkin County team that had defeated them in game one.

Commerce’s run came to an end against Jefferson, giving them their third-place result.

State tournament play begins on Thursday at Wills Park in Alpharetta. Commerce will open against South Paulding. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Four other CPRD All-Star teams also took part in tournaments recently.

The 10-year-old boys’ baseball team went 2-2 in their tournament, which was held in Fannin County. They opened play by defeating North Hall, then beat Banks County. They lost to eventual tournament runner-up Lumpkin County before ending their tournament with a loss to Fannin County.

The girls’ 10-year-old softball team placed third in tournament play in Dawson County, coming just one game away from qualifying for state by going 2-2. The team won against Lumpkin County, then defeated Fannin County before losing to Jackson County and White County.

The 12-year-old girls’ softball team also came to within one game of qualifying for state tournament play, going 2-2 and placing fourth at West Jackson. They started by defeating White county, then lost to eventual tournament champion Hall County. They came back to defeat Dawson County, but saw their hopes end in a loss to Fannin County.

The girls’ 14-year-old softball team placed third in its tournament, which was held in Fannin County.

They began tournament play by losing to Fannin County, then rebounded to best Lumpkin County before falling to Jackson County.
