Perhaps playing baseball in Oklahoma suits Clint Spratlin just fine.
The recent Winder-Barrow High School graduate helped Senior Team Georgia take the championship defeating Team Maryland 12-5 over the weekend in a game played at the University of Oklahoma. The win helped avenge an earlier loss to Maryland in the tournament.
Spratlin was the MVP Pitcher of the tournament as he also earned a win against Team Arizona.
“The competition was very good,” Spratlin said. “Everyone competing was a standout. We saw some very good athletes.”
Spratlin, along with rising WBHS senior Dylan Ivey, helped Georgia earn six tournament victories.
For Spratlin, competing against such strong opposition should prove helpful as he prepares to move on in the collegiate ranks at Connors Junior College, also in Oklahoma.
“It was very beneficial,” Spratlin said. “The players there were very similar to the ones I will see in college.”
Spratlin and Ivey had a week tour competing at various venues. Spratlin, who was recently named to the All-Northeast Georgia team, will continue preparing for his venture to college in August.
“I’m just trying to get better each day and competing in this tournament against such quality players will certainly help me in that,” Spratlin said. “I know competing in college will also be tough and will be a chance to go against top level players every time out.”
Spratlin and Ivey both helped lead the WBHS Diamond Doggs to the state playoffs this spring and a runner-up finish in Region 8-AAAA for coach Brian Smith. Ivey will be one of the top returning players for WBHS for the 2010 season.
