If anyone is still looking for a graduation present for Clint Spratlin, here’s one that might come in handy: a suitcase.
The recent Winder-Barrow High School graduate will be packing up soon and heading to Connors State College in Oklahoma where he will continue his academic and athletic ventures. Spratlin, who helped lead the Diamond Doggs to back-to-back state tournament appearances is looking forward to the opportunity.
“They are a program that has been ranked in the Top 10 for the past 10 years,” Spratlin said. “Their coach is already in the JUCO Hall of Fame.”
The former WBHS standout said he will get an opportunity to step into the pitching rotation right away at Connors State, located in Warner, Oklahoma.
“I believe this is going to be a great opportunity,” Spratlin said. “It’s a school that is 12 hours from home, but I think that will help me grow up.”
Spratlin had originally signed with Barton Junior College but after members of the team’s coaching staff were let go, he asked for and received his release.
The WBHS standout, who helped Brian Smith’s team finish second in Region 8-AAAA this spring, believes he has now found the right location and fit for him. He will report to Connors State in August.
Until then, Spratlin is remaining busy playing for the East Cobb Orioles and competing for a senior showcase squad.
The former WBHS star earned a playoff win in 2010 as the Diamond Doggs defeated Alexander in the opening game of the first round of state.
In that contest, Spratlin pitched six innings to record his eighth victory of the season throwing 115 pitches while striking out eight batters.
Spratlin also drew interest from Middle Georgia, Alabama-Birmingham, Appalachian State, South Carolina Aiken, South Carolina Upstate, and Gordon, among others.
