Five compete in Nancy Jo tourney

Three Banks County High School students recently competed in the Nancy Jo Tennis Tournament at Stephens County High School, along with other county residents.

The ninth annual benefit tournament was held April 30-May 2. The proceeds go towards the American Cancer Society the tourney is named for the late Nancy Jo Huelsman of Toccoa, who was an avid tennis player and lost her struggle to cancer in November 2001.

Participating from Banks County were Jake Schaefer, Trey Martin, Kara Murphy, Josh Schaefer and Sandee Schefer. They competed against 80 other players from around northeast Georgia.

Playing together for doubles, Martin and Jake Schaefer defeated Danny Ling and Daniel Nichols, both of Cleveland, after three sets; 5-7,6-4,6-2.







Murphy and Schaefer
In mixed doubles play, Murphy and Jake Schaefer defeated Tony Wall and Linda Carson, both from Rabun Gap, after three sets; 4-6,6-4,6-4.

Also in mixed doubles, Josh Schaefer and Sandee Schaefer defeated Bruce O’Connor and Jeanne O’Conner of Carnesville after two sets; 6-3,6-1.







In singles play, Martin defeated Zach Lathan of Toccoa in two; 6-4,6-0.
