Spring practice wrapped up Tuesday for the East Jackson Eagles as they continue to prepare for the 2010 football season.
Head football coach Frank Caputo said the enthusiasm his players have exhibited on the practice field has been infectious.
“I’m just tickled to death at the job that our coaches are doing and that our kids are doing,” he said. “From the middle school all the way through the high school, it seems like everybody is getting on the same page and doing a great job. We’re delighted that we’re able to see and coach so many kids and see their attitudes be so positive and upbeat.”
Caputo said that as of Monday morning, as many as 96 kids had been on the field during spring practice.
“I know there will be a couple of new kids (in the final days of practice),” he said. “We’ve been picking as we go. Of course, there’s some that want to participate, but for one reason or another weren’t able to get out there in equipment, but they’ve been there.”
“Our coaches spoke to the kids Friday,” he said. “We’re having a great spring, we’re flying around with the ball. We just have to be able to carry that into the season. I think, for myself, I’m real excited, but I’m going to have to stay low-key, because it’s going to be a long summer and a long season."
