Smothers places for Panthers at state meet

Last weekend’s AAA state meet at Jefferson proved to be an important one for the Jackson County Panthers track and field team.

Two Panthers qualified for the meet, as Charles Smothers competed in the 100-meter dash while Jordan Perez qualified in the discus.

Smothers came home with a sixth place overall finish in the 100-meters, marking the first state placer in several years for the school.

Perez didn’t have as good a showing, as he failed to crack the finals, but did put up a strong performance for the Panthers.

Jackson County tied with Southeast Whitfield for 23rd place overall as Carrollton took top honors.
