Commerce’s Lady Tigers’ track team completed its season with a trip to the state meet this past weekend.
The trip to Albany, resulted in a third-place finish for one Lady Tiger. SaQuavia Varnum took third place in the shot put with a final throw of 35’8”.
Commerce sent six ladies to the state meet. The 4x100 meter relay team finished just shy qualifying heat race. Members of the team were Erica Greene, Drea Mathis, Vanessa Chandler and Varnum. Individually, Chandler was edged out during the 400m-dash heat race.
While the Lady Tiger’s season ends, the boys still have their state meet ahead.
Commerce is sending six men to Jefferson this weekend to compete in the Georgia Olympics, which start on Thursday and run through Saturday.
Representing the Tigers are D. Ramsey, Terrick Ramsey, Qua Little, Deon Brock and alternates Jamal Browner and Khyrie Harris in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. D. Ramsey will also compete in the state triple jump and T. Ramsey will look for a state championship in the 100m dash and the 200m run. Brock also earned a state-qualifying bid from region in the 110m hurdles.
