Winder-Barrow High School’s John Siggers and Skyler Lowe, along with Apalachee High School’s Tim Simonton, have earned the right to compete on track’s biggest stage.
Each finished second in their respective events last week at the Region 8-AAAA track meet, held at Monroe Area High School, and will now move on to the state competition next week in Jefferson.
Siggers was runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.44 to qualify for state. Teammate Lowe was second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:34.13 to also qualify for Jefferson.
During the first day of region, Apalachee’s Simonton was runner-up in the discus with a personal best of 140-11 which sends him to the annual Georgia Olympics.

Clarke Central was the overall team winner followed by Madison County, Rockdale County, Loganville and Salem.

“Tim did really well at the region meet,” Sorrells said. “I was very proud of how he competed. It was not until his fifth throw that he moved into second place.
“He did not give up and gave it his best each throw and it paid off. He has put a lot of time and effort into improving this year. He hasworked hard with our throwing coach, Dennis Horne, and with others after practice and on the weekends.”
Likewise, Stovall was proud of the effort shown by his athletes.
“I was extremely proud of our team,” the WBHS coach said. “We had someone in almost every final and we competed well in each event. The only low spot was the pole vault where our best vaulter was injured and tried to compete but was not able to go.”
Stovall said Siggers and Lowe will represent the Bulldoggs well at state.
“John has worked very hard to become a good hurdler and the hard work really paid off,” the coach said. “Skyler ran a great race to qualify in the 3.200 despite the fact he missed almost two weeks of training due to an injury. I think both will represent WBHS well at the state meet in Jefferson.”
