Lady Dragons fall to Calhoun

A win in the first round of state playoff action advanced the Lady Dragons netters to the second round of state playoff this week.

The Lady Dragons won 5-0 over Pike County. Bell Blakenship won 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles. Maggie Broome won 6-3, 6-1 at number two singles. Miranda McGarity won 6-1, 6-1 at number three singles.

The team of Tristan McGarity and Taylor Bost won 6-2, 6-3 at number one doubles. Alison Salsman and Savannah Howard won 6-0, 6-1 at number two doubles.

Up next the Lady Dragons played host to Calhoun. That’s where their season came to an end, as they lost 0-3. Bell Blankenship was winning 6-1, 4-4 when heavy rains caused the rest of play to be called off.

The number one doubles team of Tristan McGarity and Taylor Bost was also still on the courts, but was losing 4-6, 3-4 when play was called.

The girls finished their season as the region runner-up, with an 11-4 record. Three seniors played in region championship matches all four years, winning two.

This year’s sweet 16 finish marks the sixth straight season the girls have at least made the round of 16.
