Lady Panthers place ninth at region

After being delayed this week due to rain, the Jackson County girls track team were hoping for good results from their region meet at Oconee County High School. The first day of the meet was delayed to Monday due to Saturday’s wet weather.

The Lady Panthers came away with a ninth place effort, scoring 16.5 points.

Region champion Eastside scored 134 points, followed by Oconee County, Elbert County, Hart County, Stephens County, Archer, Franklin County and Mountain View. Morgan County was the only team to trail Jackson County.

Jackson County’s Brittany Aikens came away with a first place for Jackson County, winning in the 3,200-meters and with third in the 1600-meters. Christa Beth Vaughn tied for sixth in the high jump.

The state track meet is slated for May 6-8 in Albany.
