Lady Leopard netters finish at sweet 16

The Banks County lady netters played into the sweet 16 of the state playoffs.

Last Wednesday, the Lady Leopards faced Heard County in the first round of the state playoffs where the netters took a 4-1 victory and secured a spot inside the sweet 16.

During singles play, Kara Murphy defeated Heard County’s Blake Alford in clean 6-0;6-0 sweep. Number three singles, Carlie Ivey defeated Rebekah Tatum 6-1;6-2. At number two singles, Maria Enslen lost a tough fought match to Rebecca Heard 5-7;1-6.

During doubles play, Megan Whitey and Brittany Cook defeated their opponents 6-3;4-6;6-1, while number two doubles team of Lauran Taylor and Taylor Seabolt won their sets 6-2;6-2.

Sweet 16
In the second round of the playoffs, Banks County’s Lady Leopards faced Blessed Trinity where the lady netters were defeated 3-0.

“This match was an important stepping stone for the players because this was something that they wanted to accomplish, reaching the sweet 16,” said coach Lisa Thomas. “Even after our loss, we were all proud of the positive gains that were made as a team.”

This season the girls had five seniors to help shape the team. The seniors are: Maria Enslen, Carlie Ivey, Megan Whitey, Brittany Cook, and Lauran Taylor.

“The seniors have done an excellent job helping lead our team to victory and each of them will be missed,” Thomas said.
