With the end of the regular season just ahead, the Jefferson Dragons are looking to close in high form after picking up wins over Rabun and Banks County in the past week.
The Dragons will close the regular season with a Friday doubleheader against the Eagles of Riverside Military Academy.
The Eagles enter play this week 3-14 in the region and 5-18 overall. They recorded two of their season wins last week over East Jackson in a doubleheader, having defeated only Walnut Grove prior to those games.
First pitch in game one Friday night is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Rabun County
The Dragons faced off against the Wildcats of Rabun County Friday in a doubleheader on the road.
Game one was a tight affair, with neither team finding a way to score through the first four innings. Jefferson finally got a runner across in the top of the first, and then held the Wildcats scoreless over the next two and a half innings to take the 1-0 victory.
Jamie Sexton recorded the win, giving up just three hits while striking out 13 batters in seven innings.
At the plate, Caleb Meek went 1-2, scoring the game-wining run. Andrew Bartek went 1-2. Kyle Hardy went 1-4.
In game two, the Dragons took control early, moving out to a 1-0 in the top of the second after a scoreless first inning.
Jefferson added two more runs in the top of the third while continuing to hold the Wildcats scoreless.
Rabun County got their first run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, then moved to within one run of the Dragons by getting a second run across in the bottom of the fifth.
Jefferson was able to hold the Wildcats at bay, as the sixth and seventh innings passed scoreless. In the end, the Dragons came away with a 3-2 victory.
Jake Fields recorded the win, giving up one hit and two runs while striking out seven in just over four innings.
Kyle Hardy led at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBIs and a homerun. Jamie Sexton went 2-4. Jake Fields went 1-3. Andrew Bartek went 1-2.
