Final Games Ahead For Tigers

Seeding in the playoffs is at stake this week for the Commerce baseball Tigers.

“We have Hebron at home [Tuesday] and a ton of things can still happen for a few of us to determine seeding going into the playoffs,” coach Steve Cotrell explained. “Lakeview and Hebron as well as Athens Academy have three games this week, so a lot of factors depend on their results and our results mainly versus Hebron.”

Results from Tuesday’s game against Hebron were unavailable at press time.

Currently, Hebron is on top of 8-A, undefeated in region competition.

Athens Academy and Commerce are second and third with 9-3 records, while Lakeview Academy, 8-3, and Athens Christian, 6-5, round out the top five. Commerce defeated Lakeview in a close battle last week.

Still ahead for the Tigers are the final three region games.

Commerce is scheduled to play at Tallulah Falls on Friday at 5:15 p.m. against the Indians.

Commerce hosts Social Circle Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season, then on Friday, April 30, Commerce heads to Athens Christian for the final regular-season game in a 5:30 p.m. match up with the Eagles.

Earlier this week, the non-region makeup game against Jefferson was canceled with no intention of rescheduling due to the already booked schedules of both teams.
