The Banks County golf teams are sending one golfer through to the state round.

Cara Gowder was the low medalist in the girls’ 8-AA region tournament on Monday shooting an 86.

Gowder, a freshman, advances to the state match on May 3 at the Alpharetta Athletic Club, East Course.

Lady Leopards’ coach Len Dalton said that Gowder has worked hard all year long and has been a consistent golfer for the team during the season.

Gowder’s teammates missed out from joining her by one stroke as the Lady Leopards took third place with a score of 210.

The top two teams in the region advance to state. Jefferson shot a 190 followed by Dawson County’s 209 to advance.

Laura Rose Pickens shot a 124 in the tournament. Also playing but their scores did not count were Lindsey Eller (126) and Katerina Manley (129).
