Winder-Barrow High School’s 1960 state championship baseball team will be recognized Wednesday, April 21, prior to the baseball game against Salem at 5:30 p.m. at Charles W. Maddox Complex.
The 1960 team is the first-ever state championship squad, according to local sports historian Hal Miller. Members of the title squad include Sonny Morris, Raymond Reynolds, Simuel Doster, Dwain Jackson, Tommy Dickens, Donald Blalock, Jack Ferguson, Jimmy Griffeth, Bill Healan, Jerry Herrin, Jackie Dickens, Steve Griffeth and Billy McDaniel. Doyle Mauldin and Gene Parker, both vital members of the 1960 team, have passed away.
The team was coached by Wendel Ridelhoover, who resides in Florida.
The 1960 team was 14-5 and won three games to win the state championship.
