WBHS boys tennis enters region with momentum

WBHS defeated Clarke Central 3-2 last week. The Gladiators had defeated the Bulldoggs earlier this season in Winder.

The team also had a showdown with Madison County on the court.

After a back-and-forth match, Madison County emerged with a 3-2 victory but not before WBHS gave the Raiders, who were undefeated in region play, a scare.

Jared Frost won in straight sets at No. 2 singles making him undefeated in region.

Hon switched his No. 2 doubles team by putting Jake King in as part of the team. Tyler Tippins was moved to No. 3 singles.

King, along with doubles partner Jett Bowen, had a hard-fought match and eventually took a 3-set win.

The match with Madison County came down to No. 2 doubles. Winder-Barrow’s combination of Ernesto Thomas and Efa Osuegbu gave a great effort, their coach said, losing the first set before winning the second in convincing fashion.

The third set was also close and went to a tiebreaker before Madison County won 7-3.

That win gave the Raiders the overall victory 3-2.

“There may be no moral victories, but we are certainly playing well at a great time in the season,” Hon said. “I think the team is really looking forward to the region tournament.”
